Illustrated by Harry Pettit A one-off story from the film screenplay. It takes place in North Essex, not far from Colchester; probably just outside Ardleigh [OS 1:50000 Sheet 168] First edition: orange boards, black lettering on spine; map endpapers; plan of mill, title page vignette, 11 chapter-head illustrations and endpiece illustration in b/w; 152pp. Dustwrapper: full colour wrap around picture by Harry Pettit, advertisement for the film on rear; cp 8/6.

A copy of the film was tracked down by Guy and shown at the Ludlow gathering of the Malcolm Saville Society in April 1996.
This copy was shorter than recorded, and in black and white. Family members recall its being in colour.

The Malcolm Saville Society 2008: A DVD of the two Saville films and other material. Launched at the Saville gathering in Shropshire in 2008 and available from the Society, the DVD plays on all players and the extra files can be read on any computer with DVD reader. Richard Griffiths 2006 dustwrapper

RHG Books 2006 An attractive new hardback edition produced by Richard Griffiths reproducing the original Newnes edition. blue cloth, red blocking to spine only; map endpapers and all the original illustrations by Harry Pettit. The book's front flap follows the Newnes blue and red pattern and the rear flap has some stills from the film. There is an appendix which deals with the film variations and information from the family regarding its filming on location at the mill.
