Has the distinction of being the only artist here to have illustrated a Saville book set in his own house.
Treasure at the Mill (Newnes 1957) was written by Saville as a film story for the
Children's Film Foundation based on Pettit's lovely Mill home in Essex.
His children are main characters of the story, and he actually appears as their father in the film.

Under the Sun by George and Martha Berry published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1955. 116pp; illustrated throughout in black and white by Harry Pettit, is described as 'a book of discoveries in the animal world'. |
|
At the front of the book is a two page spread pictorial map of
Mr Pink's cottage, the village and the land explored by the book. In the upper half of the right hand page is a small river, and on the river a small mill which does not appear in the book. It is a tiny part of the map, shown here, about 35 by 45mm (1.5x2 inches). It is Spring Valley Mill, home of the artist. |
